Displaying a message while a page loads
Some designers choose to display a message while a Web page is still loading. The message may say or indicate something like"Loading...please wait a moment." Below are steps to create such a"loading layer" in Dreamweaver. This method involves placing the message in a layer that displays as the page loads and then hides once the loading process is complete.
Creating a layer to display a message while a Web page loads

1 Insert a layer on your page. Resize and reposition the layer according to your design.
Note:If other layers exist, make sure the z-index of this loading layer is higher than the others so that it appears on top. Also, the layer may need to be positioned so that it is not overlying form elements, plug-in content (such as Flash movies), or Dreamweaver Flash Buttons/Text. See Layers appear below other elements on a page (TechNote 15126).

2 Create a graphic or Flash (SWF) movie to be displayed within the layer while the page loads. The file size of this graphic or Flash movie should be relatively small so that it loads immediately.
3 Insert the graphic or Flash movie into the layer.
4 From the tag selector, choose <body>. The tag selector is a small row of tags in the bottom left margin of the Document window.
5 Choose Window > Behaviors to open the Behaviors panel.
6 Click the Plus (+) button.
7 From the Behavior panel's Actions pop-up menu, select Show/Hide Layers. This activates the Show/Hide Layers dialog box.
8 Select the layer in the Layers list which you created in Step 1.
9 Click Hide.
10 Click OK.
11 The Show/Hide Layer action will now appear on the Behaviors panel. The event which will trigger the action (hide) is set to OnLoad. With this setting, the loading layer will display until the page has finished loading.

Nota: en español la funcion es Mostrar / Ocultar capa; con esta funcion se pueden hacer varias cosas más, espero que les sirva
